Do You Have Too Much Wrist in Your Putts?

2 minute read

Are you struggling with distance control on long putts or inconsistency on short putts? It might be as simple as your left wrist breaking down at impact. In this video from our Golf Swing Tips series, Coach Mike teaches you how to improve your putting consistency with a few grip tweaks and a drill.

Putting Grip Tip #1

Instead of a normal grip, try a left hand low grip. With this grip, you'll create an angle with your right hand and maintain it by pressing those three fingers into your left forearm. This will help you maintain consistent strikes and start lines.

Putting Grip Tip #2

The second option is to take a normal grip and use a forward press. Many pros use this technique, where they set up and hold the forward press throughout the stroke. This press allows the ball and club face to contact at the right points, improving your consistency.

Putting Drill

Try this simple drill. Set up as you normally would and place a ball against your lead wrist. Feel the forward press and maintain that pressure throughout the stroke. This drill will help you improve your strike and roll off the club face.

Now it's up to you to decide which option works best for your swing. Whether it's a grip change, forward press, or drill, these tips will help you improve your golf swing and consistency on the green.
