If you're a golf enthusiast, you’ve probably seen pros like Rory McIlroy hit the high launch draw to perfection.

But achieving that perfect tee shot takes more than just a powerful swing.

In the first episode of Golf Swing Tips, Mike Labella, a Golf Digest Top Instructor under 40, gives some advice on how to hit the perfect draw with your driver.

Set Up To Hit A Draw

Every golf shot you ever attempt begins the same way: with your set up. Although there is a lot of routine at play when setting up over the golf ball, there are some specifics to note when setting up to hit a draw.

Ball Position

If we have the ball too far back, our path might be going too far in-to-out or we might be swinging down on it too much. So we recommend setting the club about a club head width inside of your lead foot. The golf ball should be far enough back to create a little bit of an in-to-out swing. If it's too far forward, you'll end up swinging up on the ball too much and losing distance.

Spine Tilt

You also need to consider your spine tilt. Make sure you have a spine tilt away from your target. To check yourself, place your hand on your thigh and tilt until your fingertips hit the top of your knee. You should also think about getting your left ear behind the ball by about 3 to 5 inches.

If you're suffering from slices, adjust your setup by getting your right foot and right shoulder slightly back. This will help you swing from the inside and avoid an open club face.

Low Point In The Golf Swing

Let's talk about low point. Controlling the low point of your driver is the key to launching the ball higher, reducing spin, and hitting a draw shot. The low point is the lowest point of the arc of your swing. With an iron, the club hits ball first, and then you take a divot. This indicates that your low point is forward of the ball.

However, with a driver, since the ball is on a tee, you don't want your low point to be in front of the ball. Instead, you should aim to have your low point behind the ball. This will help you swing up on the ball and create that high launch.

Swing Path Should Be Inside Out

To hit a high launching draw, you need to swing from the inside. For a right hander, your swing path slightly to the right, with the club face slightly closed to that path.

Swing Thought

During your swing, focus on getting your left shoulder behind the ball in the backswing. This will allow you to swing up and out on the way down. You should also aim to get the face of your club to match up with your target line to avoid an open club face and reduce spin.

By following these tips and techniques, you can improve your golf game and hit those high launching drives with ease. Remember to practice consistently and stay patient as you perfect your swing. Happy golfing!
